Description: The Federation phaser rifle type 3a, also known as the Compression phaser rifle, was carried on some Starfleet starships in the 2370’s.

On the USS Voyager they were first used by the away team that transported the Caretaker’s array in 2371.

When set to a wide beam, a Compression phaser rifle could take out a large groyp of individuals in one shot.
